[After sending out a reply of a simple "right", Jane busies herself for a few moments in trying to shoo some of the Slowpoke out of her immediate area. They really are everywhere, and having something drooling on her in the middle of an important discussion just isn't her idea of a swell time.
God these things are hard to move 8| Get along, little doggy!]
[Dirk shows up quickly, too soon for all the Slowpokes have been shooed off (not that it's an accomplishment, considering Slowpokes. Instead of starting in immediately, he joins her in ushering them away.]
[Looking at him, Dirk doesn't seem as nervous himself. Mostly, it's because he's the one who suggested it, so he had more time to prepare himself and get a pokerface in place.]
I like Jake. I've liked him for a while. And you have too, if I'm not mistaken.
[She says it carefully, her face still managing to flush a bit of color at admitting it out loud.] I just.. want him to be happy with who he chooses. I know we both would make him happy, in our own ways, so uh.. [What do they even do? It's not some kind of thing to do rock paper scissors over, seriously.]
Right, and I don't want it to get between our friendship either, it's just.. well. Only one of us gets to be with him. It's going to hurt whoever he doesn't choose. [Folding her hands together in her lap, Jane gives a gentle hum in thought.]
Let's just agree that we keep talking to each other. Upset, sad, happy, however we're feeling. To just keep in frequent contact.
Hoo, that.. that's probably what I will wind up doing too, if he chooses you. [It was a small attempt to put something positive in, to make this conversation less like a dirge to the end of a friendship as it was. Clearing her throat quietly, she stood and just moved to pull Dirk into a hug.
To their relationship woes, let's have a cheershug!]
[A hug seems like it'd be really nice right now. Which is why Dirk hugs back, instead of tensing or being awkward about it the way he normally would. It sucks that their friendship is being stressed like this.]
[Giving a squeeze with that hug, Jane just smiles gently and sets her head on his shoulder.] Either way, we'll all be alright in the end. We'll all stay friends.

What's up, Dirk?

Honestly, I think we've been needing to talk for a while.
About, for lack of a better term, "the Jake thing."
no subject
Yes, we really have needed to have this talk.
Do you want to talk inside or out by the slowpoke well?
no subject
Meet you there.

I really wonder why this town practically reveres them so much.

Because it's their spirit pokemon, I guess. But let's not get distracted with that.

[Dirk pauses, adjusting his shades.]
I'd say I don't want it to get in the way of our friendship, but that's not exactly a reasonable expectation.

[God, will it ever. Feelings suck sometimes.]
Sounds like a good idea to me. I agree to that. [He pauses, looks down at his hands, then looks back to Jane.]
If he does choose you. I probably won't stick around. Figured I should say it now.
